Lookout: Quartet For-Te celebrates spring

Local musicians Quartet For-Te will celebrate spring’s arrival and a new awakening with a special performance. Their concert, “Oppression and Liberation of the Human Spirit,” is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport.

Quartet For-Te features Loren Lee and Caroline Lieber on violin, Dayla Stoerzbach on viola and John Bumstead on cello. The quartet began last year and explores a diverse mix of classical to contemporary music.

On Sunday, audiences will hear the string quartets selections by Dmitri Shostakovich and Edvard Grieg.

“The musical experience for the afternoon begins with a piece that captures the tremendous torment felt by tragedy, loss, war and bereavement,” according to organizers. “It is said that the composer himself could not hear this quartet without breaking into tears and dedicated the work.”

Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

“The music speaks volumes without saying a word,” Lieber said in a statement.
