Gentle chair yoga under way

Interfaith minister Carla Mattioli will lead a gentle chair yoga program at Belleville Congregational Church Hall this spring.

The session runs through May 16 and meets each Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. There is an $80 fee.

This practice of yoga is gentle on the joints as it is performed sitting in a chair, with options to stand if you wish. Beginners are welcome and encouraged.

Belleville Congregational Church Hall is located at 300 High St., Newburyport. To register or for more information, call Mattioli at 978-546-8018 or visit www.awakearts.com.

Make Way for Molly fundraiser May 18

The fifth annual Make Way for Molly Pan-Massachusetts Challenge fundraiser featuring dinner, dancing, silent auction and raffles will be held Saturday, May 18, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Elks Lodge on Low Street in Newburyport.

This is the seventh year the Make Way for Molly team has ridden in the Pan-Mass Challenge and the fourth year the Barlow family of Newburyport’s niece, Molly Callahan, has been cancer free. Callahan, who was diagnosed with leukemia at age 10, will be graduating from high school this year and will be going on to college to study nursing, hoping to someday work on the same floor at Children’s Hospital in Boston where she herself was treated.

All the money raised by the Make Way for Molly team is given to a pediatric fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to assist children afflicted with cancer and their families.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $20 for adults. They are available in advance or at the door. For more, email Barlowcarpentry@msn.com or call 978-465-6928.
