Surfing for support

Fundraiser to boost 'Save the Stage' efforts in Amesbury

Waves of music and waves of art will crash into downtown Amesbury tomorrow evening, when Pat Hall and Friends will give a much-needed assist to Stage Two Cinema Pub’s “Save the Stage” campaign.

“It’s going to be a great night,” Stage Two owner Donna Turbity said. “We are still lagging a little bit behind here, and I am hopeful it is going to take off. But we are running out of time, unfortunately.”

With 188 backers and 14 days to go, the Kickstarter campaign has secured $17,150 worth of pledges toward the $60,000 goal to bring digital projection to Stage Two.

Because it looks like the online campaign will fall short, Turbity decided to plan a surfing-themed fundraiser.

“We would like to draw in that crowd,” Turbity said. “There are a lot of people who follow (Hall’s) band, and they are all into surfing and whatever. He brings in a lot of people that way, and that opens up a whole new level of people.”

The event will also feature live surf paintings by Shane Taylor and an auction, with Monumental Films’ “Sounds of Waves” shown on a loop in the background. Guest musicians Jarrod Tyler and Jonny Deuplisea will play in between sets for wall-to-wall music.

“We are going to have a great band and watch a great movie,” Turbity said. “All of the proceeds are going to go to the Kickstarter fund, so the more, the merrier. Every little bit is hopefully going to help get us where we need to be.”

“The Turbitys have been good friends of mine for a long time,” Hall said. “I played Pop Warner football in Amesbury, and it is very cool to help the Stage Two. The last time we played there, the show was sold out and there was great energy.”
