The Lookout: City galleries open doors for ArtWalk

Newburyport’s second ArtWalk of the season will be held this weekend.

The free, self-guided tour will run from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at more than 20 galleries and partner venues around the city.

Some of the special activities planned this time include:

Chameleon: Exhibits feature pieces by several artists, including Gordon Przybyla and Erica Marquardt.

Connor Summers Gallery: Paintings by Jim Mickelson and Jon Kodwyck will be on display.

Firehouse Center for the Arts: A gallery reception with painter Susan Bailey will be held Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Her exhibit “Color!” is on display through July 13.

Indigo Artist Studio/Alan Bull Studio: Monotypes by Mary Arthur Pollak and Alan Bull will be featured.

Nantucket Stock Exchange: A soiree is planned for Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. Works by Eric K. Andersen and Tom Cooke will be on display.

Signature Art Works: Art by Greg Butterworth will be featured.

Sweethaven Studio & Gallery: Landscape paintings by Karen Blackwood will be featured, along with landscape photographs by Greg Nikas.

Valerie’s Gallery: A “Meet the Artist” event will be held with Matthew Smith on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. He will have samples of materials that he uses to work in two mediums: woodblock prints and copper etchings of sea life.

The Walsingham Gallery: Artist Jim Inzero will demonstrate encaustic painting from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday with tools such as beeswax, pigments, a blow torch and a hot iron. He is also debuting a new series of paintings built over maritime charts.

Other participating locations include Brass Lyon, Ivy Lane, Lepore Fine Arts, mythoughtlessness Gallery & Fine Art, Newburyport Art Association, Paula Estey Studio & Gallery, RR Traders, Sisters We Three and Somerby’s Landing Sculpture Park. Partner businesses are Plum Island Coffee Roasters, Atomic Cafe, 17 State Street Cafe, Middle Street Foods, Chococoa Baking Co. and Essex Street Inn.
