The three-year demonstration project aims to help young individuals with disabilities access education, employment and independent living opportunities as well as become involved in the community.

Women's Interfaith Spiritual Encounter on tap

"Earth, Air, Fire, Water: Caring for our Personal and Planetary Souls" is the focus of the sixth annual Women's Interfaith Spiritual Encounter planned for June 26 and 27 at Rolling Ridge Retreat and Conference Center in North Andover.

WISE director Sherry Bonder of Newburyport says women of all religious affiliations and spiritual paths are welcome for the weekend of "reinvention and revitalization of your spiritual center." There will be time to pray, meditate and participate in workshops, performances, readings, yoga and more.

Linda Weltner, a humorist, lecturer, author, playwright, activist and former newspaper columnist, will be the keynote speaker. She will share her thoughts on the journey by women to develop their passion, find their voice and work for change in a way that recognizes the interconnectedness of all things on Earth.

WISE started seven years ago by Newburyport's Anna Smulowitz, an interfaith chaplain who sought to bring together a group of like-minded women to create a vision of spirituality, collaboration and social activism that crossed religious boundaries, while also taking time for nurturing and fun. It has since evolved into a grass-roots, nonprofit community group.

The cost for the weekend is $345 to $395, with discounts for early registrations. For more, visit www.spiritualencounter.com or call Joanne Rowley at 978-463-9318 or e-mail ritamb@comcast.net.
