The Lookout: A garden variety in Newburyport and Groveland

A variety of gardens to suit all tastes will be open to the public next weekend, when both Newburyport and Groveland host tours.

More than a dozen “City Gardens” will be featured in the 34th annual Newburyport Garden Tour on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9.

The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, rain or shine. The Historical Society of Old Newbury’s Cushing Museum will also be open, offering live music, a plant sale and a raffle.

Tickets are $20 if purchased by tomorrow and $25 after that. They can be purchased at the Historical Society, 98 High St.; Corliss Brothers Garden Center, 31 Essex Road, Ipswich; Beach Plum Farms, 88 Elm St., Salisbury; Beach Plum Too, 50 Water St., Newburyport; Kelly’s True Value, 163 State St., Newburyport; and the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, 38R Merrimac St., Newburyport.

“Beyond the Garden Gate,” the Groveland Garden Club’s tour, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, rain or shine.

A plant sale will be held starting at 9 a.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse, 26 Broad St. Plants will also be sold at some of the gardens.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the tour. They are available at Langley-Adams Library, Jon Val’s, Dunn’s Farm Stand, Nunan Florist & Greenhouses and Knapp’s Greenhouses.

‘Opera Fest’ in Ipswich on Saturday

Chorus North Shore is teaming up with Intermezzo: The New England Chamber Opera Series for “Opera Fest” on Saturday in Ipswich.

Conducted by Sonja Dahlgren Pryor, the chorus’s 150 members will be joined by soloists Andrea Matthews, soprano; Gale Fuller, mezzo-soprano; Ray Bauwens, tenor; and John Whittlesey, baritone. They will be accompanied by Frederick A. MacArthur and James Busby.

The concert of opera highlights will include “Sextet” from “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “Duets” from “La Boheme” and arias from “Carmen.”
