The Lookout: Well-known local singers present two concerts this weekend

UPDATED: Saturday's concert at Maudslay Arts Center has been canceled due to the threat of severe weather. Additionally, the Vest-a-Dog fundraiser has been postponed until Sunday.

Soloists Allyn Warner Gamble and Stephen Faria will join forces in a “Midsummer Concert Extravaganza!” at The Actors Studio this weekend.

Gamble was a principal singer in Las Vegas for 30 years and has opened for Johnny Carson and George Carlin. Now a teacher at The Actors Studio and The Musical Suite in Newburyport, she has appeared in a number of local productions, including “Heidi, the Musical” and “The Secret Garden” at the Firehouse Center for the Performing Arts.

Faria is well-known in the Greater Newburyport area for his sketch comedy, original musicals and dramas, and versatile acting range. He recently took on a number of roles in “The 39 Steps” at the Firehouse. In addition to singing, he is also a skilled trumpet player.

Faria and Gamble will be accompanied by Jack Senier on piano, Ross Adams on bass and Alan Stone on drums, as well as special guest vocalists.

Shows will be held Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include a reception with the musicians following both performances. For reservations, call 978-465-1229 or visit www.newburyportacting.org.

The Actors Studio is located in The Tannery Marketplace, 50 Water St., Mill 1, Suite 5, Newburyport.
