---- — Free Zen meditation instruction is offered Monday nights at the First Religious Society in Newburyport.
The practice sessions meet in the lower meetinghouse at 26 Pleasant St. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is a 6 p.m. orientation session for first-time participants.
The classes are taught by Joyce Haydock, a dharma teacher at the Kwan Um School of Zen for more than 22 years.

Community yoga classes in Amesbury
The following community karma yoga classes will be offered at the People’s Yoga Co-Op in Amesbury on a pay-by-donation basis. All classes are drop-in and held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at 14 Cedar St.
Tonight, Intro to Ashtanga Yoga with Ariana Doccola; June 21, Restorative & Slow Flow Yoga with Jennifer Freeman; and June 28, Awesome Abs Yoga with Paula Wilson.
Pay-by-donation Yoga by the River classes are also planned for every Sunday in July and August from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on the Merrimack River in Amesbury.

Fair emphasizes senior health
Seniors are invited to attend the second annual Senior Health Fair on Saturday at the YWCA Greater Newburyport.
Running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the fair will include information on social opportunities and resources available through local councils on aging, hearing and eye tests, advice on natural pain relief, and a talk by Wellness Director Ilene Harnch-Grady on the importance of fitness.
Seniors can also bring their bathing suits and towels for a swim in the warm-water pool from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Helping local mothers and babies
The 21st annual Walk for Life fundraiser will take place on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hope Community Church in Newburyport.
The two-mile walk funds the Pregnancy Care Center’s client services program, which provides counseling, food, clothing and furniture to local families in need. The center has locations in Amesbury, Haverhill and Lawrence. Walks will also be held at the same time in Haverhill and Reading.

Free yoga classes for adults and kids
A free community weekly yoga class will be held at Waterfront Park, behind the Firehouse, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. every Friday through Aug. 24.
Led by Mike Houlihan of Roots to Wings, the classes will have a healing focus and include postures and breathing for strength, flexibility, balance and concentration. Bring a mat or towel.
Donations will be accepted for the Pettengill House in Salisbury.
Roots to Wings is also offering free KidsYoga classes for ages 5-11 on Thursday, June 27, and Saturday, June 29, at 4 p.m. at 1 Lunt St., Byfield. Reservations are requested.
Classes are also held at Perkins Playground off Water Street on Saturday mornings and on the beach on the Newbury side of Plum Island on Sunday mornings.
