Barbershop chorus to host annual show

The Northshoremen Barbershop Chorus and its quartets will be “Strolling Down Harmony Lane” during their 66th annual show on Saturday.

Highlighting the greatest hits from the doo-wop era, the concert will be held at 3 p.m. at Danvers High School, 60 Cabot Road.

Featured performers include North Shore Acappella, which was a semifinalist on the NBC TV show “The Sing-Off,” and two a cappella groups from Danvers High, Falconize and Ingrid Sounds.

All of the groups will join together at the end of the show for a salute to America.

Library welcomes local authors

“Local Authors Love Libraries” continues Saturday at the Amesbury Public Library.

From 11 a.m. to noon, poet and fiction writer Carla Panciera will read and host a discussion. The Rowley resident is the author of two collections of poetry and a new collection of short stories that will be published in the fall.

“Local Authors Love Libraries” is part of the May Membership Month celebration at the library and is sponsored by The Friends of the Amesbury Public Library.

The free series continues with Margie Walker on May 24 and James Sullivan on May 31. Additionally, a mystery panel program will be held Thursday, May 29, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. with authors Joel Brown, Elizabeth Elo, Edith Maxwell, Linda Baletsa and Tempa Pagel.

Organization fetes 40th birthday

Opportunity Works is marking its 40th anniversary with a celebration on Saturday night at the Bradford Country Club.

The Beatles cover band Beatlejuice will perform from 8 to 11 p.m., and there will be snacks and a cash bar. A raffle will offer the opportunity to win a six-night cruise to Bermuda or the Bahamas.
