“The toughest challenge has been the title of the play,” she said. “For all the obvious cultural reasons, you think it is not a good title. Whenever I tell men what I am directing now, I see their eyes glaze over.”
Isbell went on to say that the title and the play itself are a big mismatch.
“Call it ‘Twelve Thoughtful Women’ or ‘Twelve Women Thinkers and Doers,’ ‘Twelve Different Women Who Step Up to the Plate,’” she said.
The play is an ensemble piece, meaning that all 12 main characters are onstage for the entire production. Squeezing the cast onto the relatively small stage of Marc Clopton’s black-box studio has been a challenge met by the design work of artistic director David Stawasz and the building prowess of Fred LaRoach.
The play will run for the next three weekends.
