Health Beat: Waterfront yoga to raise money for Pettengill House

A community weekly yoga class starts today at Waterfront Park, behind the Firehouse Center for the Arts.

The outdoor sessions will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. every Friday through August.

Led by Mike Houlihan of Roots to Wings, the classes will have a healing focus and include postures and breathing for strength, flexibility, balance and concentration. Bring a mat or towel.

Donations will be accepted for The Pettengill House in Salisbury.

Roots to Wings is also offering classes on Joppa, off Water Street, on Saturday mornings and beach yoga on Sunday mornings on the Newbury side of Plum Island, off Fordham Way. Those classes both start at 7:30, with discounted summer passes for the Joppa classes available from the Newburyport Parks Commission.

For more information, call 978-463-9642, email yoga@rootstowings.com or visit www.rootstowings.com.
