The esteemed U.S. Coast Guard Woodwind Quintet will perform a free concert at the Custom House Maritime Museum on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Woodwind Quintet began in 1977 and has performed at numerous prestigious events through the years, including the dedication of the Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C., the vice president’s reception during the inaugural celebrations for Ronald W. Reagan, and on board the Coast Guard Barque Eagle during Liberty Weekend in 1986.
The quintet also plays at Coast Guard dinners and receptions, music festivals and university concerts. Recently, the group recorded “La Nouvelle Orleans” by Lalo Schifrin for a soon-to-be released CD featuring the United States Coast Guard Band.
The Custom House Maritime Museum is located at 25 Water St., Newburyport.
Seasonal brewfest tomorrow
A popular holiday event will return to Amesbury tomorrow. Heat Event Management is once showcasing the season’s frosty brews at the 12 Beers of Christmas Seasonal Brewfest.
The event will feature seasonal creations, including harvest, winter or Christmas beer, ale, cider or mead. It runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Lafayette Club, 11 High St., Amesbury. Admission is $25 in advance and can be purchased at eventbrite.com. At the door, tickets will be sold for $30.
Historical Society accepting consignments
The Historical Society of Old Newbury is accepting consignments for January’s ’Bury Treasures Auction through tomorrow.
The society is seeking a range of items, such as paintings, prints, vintage items, jewelry, toys, mirrors, furniture, china, candlesticks, marine-related items, silver, tools, ceramics, pottery and Newburyport-area related items. Tree lighting and parade in Amesbury
Amesbury will get into the holiday spirit on Saturday with the annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting.
The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m. in Market Square. This year’s theme is “Christmas Around the World” and floats will be crafted to reflect that theme.
