Meditation session at First Religious

Local musician Zach Field will host a percussion and meditation session at First Religious Society in Newburyport on Sunday, Dec. 30.

Field, the owner and director of Zach Field Drum Studios in the Tannery, will lead a program called “Gong Meditation and Relaxation,” beginning at 10:30 a.m. He will provide a brief history of his own journey into using gongs and will offer some meditation tips, and then invite the audience to participate in a 20-minute gong meditation. In 2010 he began “The Gong Meditation Project” as a way to help himself and others learn ways to escape from the stresses of everyday life. He discovered that playing pitched gongs enhanced the meditation process and helped distract the mind while creating a relaxed state.

The First Religious Society is located at 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport.
