Lookout: ArtWalk set for this weekend

The city’s first ArtWalk of the season will be held this weekend.

The free program will run from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at 13 different galleries around the city. This is the 11th season of ArtWalk, a self-guided walking tour.

Participating galleries and studios participating are:

Valerie’s Gallery, 26 State St., is hosting four gallery artists. Meet the artists, ask questions and learn more about their creations.

Indigo Artist Studio, 53 Middle St., features an interactive monotype demo on Sunday with Mary Arthur Pollak from 2 to 3 p.m. Indigo’s gallery features monotype, mixed media and oils by the studio artists.

Firehouse Gallery, Market Square, in the Firehouse Center for the Arts, presents “Dancers,” a solo exhibit of Susan Spellman’s gorgeous oil paintings in the gallery on the street level of the arts center. Upstairs at the Firehouse, the “April and Art” exhibit features works by seven different Newburyport artists.

Somerby’s Landing Sculpture Park on the waterfront is a year-long exhibit of large, outdoor, contemporary sculptures from New England artists.

Sweethaven Studio & Gallery, at 25 Inn St. Local fiddle player Ann Federowicz will be playing Bluegrass and Irish music from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The artists include Greg Nikas’ landscape photographed, local weaver Phyllis Sher of Phliss Designs and Alan Bull and his paintings for the weekend.

The Artwalk brochure with a map is available at galleries, the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, many restaurants and inns, and the middle passage way between State Street and Inn Street.

Music at State Street restaurant

Newburyport’s 17 State Street Cafe will host musician Lynne Taylor tomorrow night and The Chuck Walker Quartet on Saturday. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m.

Cat in the Cradle coffeehouse

The Cat in the Cradle Coffeehouse will offer a night of entertainment at the Byfield Community Arts Center on Saturday, with a performance by singer Michelle Lewis.
