The Lookout: Saltbox Gallery artists bring work to Plum Island

More than 150 pieces of art will hang at Plum Island Taxpayers Association Hall this weekend.

The 18 artists of the Saltbox Gallery, based in Topsfield, will display watercolors, oils, pastels and more from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow through Saturday. Artists include Newbury’s Candy Way, who paints local marshes and sailboats, and gallery founder Priscilla Lane Brown, who lives in downtown Newburyport.

There will also be a fine gift gallery featuring silver and pearl jewelry, woven-bead jewelry, turned-wood wares, carved birds, and pottery.

An artists reception, sponsored by Plum Island Grille and Vertical Solutions, will take place tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m.

‘Get Hypnotized’ at the Firehouse

Hypnotist and comedian Peter Gross returns to the Firehouse Center for the Arts on Saturday.

In “Get Hypnotized,” Gross uses his powers of influence to bring out silly behaviors in audience members. He has gotten volunteers to think their shoes are cellphones, forget how to count, and dance and sing.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for students and members.

Tea time at the Whittier Home

Step back in time and enjoy an Old Fashioned Tea Party in the Victorian Garden at the Whittier Home Museum.

Parties are scheduled for Thursday, July 18, with a rain date of Friday, July 19, and Thursday, Aug. 15, with a rain date of Friday, Aug. 16.

Hot and cold tea, lemonade, tea sandwiches, and pastries will be served from 2 to 4 p.m. both days. Tours of the home will be offered, and light classical music will be played.

The cost is $20 per person. Reservations must be made by Monday for next Thursday’s tea and by Aug. 12 for the Aug. 15 tea. Call 978-388-1337 or visit whittierhome.org.
