In another sign of the end of summer, the first part of the Newburyport Art Association Fall Members Juried Show opens tomorrow.
Part I of the show accepts works in oil, acrylic, printmaking, sculpture and fine crafts from the association's members.
Newburyport artist Jennifer Burnham beat out the other 129 accepted submissions to take home the Sam Sargent Award for Best of Show for her acrylics piece titled "Exalted."
There were 168 submitted works this year. Jane Young, owner of the Chase Young gallery in Boston, served as the juror. Members are allowed to submit two works in the media forms to be judged.
Of the accepted works, 101 are oil, 38 are acrylic, 13 are printmaking, and 13 are sculpture. Three of the submissions are fine crafts.
In her written comments to the artists, Young praised the "wide range of mediums and themes" entered into the show.
She also credited artists for their "thoughtful attention to detail."
The Fall Members Juried Show Part I will run through Oct. 15. An artists' reception and awards ceremony will take place Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Art Association, 65 Water St.
Part II will begin next month and includes watercolor, pastel, photography, mixed media, drawing and digital arts. Young will again serve as the juror.
