Health Beat: Red Cross looking for local heroes

Nominations are now being accepted for the 12th annual Red Cross Heroes Breakfast.

Hero categories include Enduring — a person who has made a difference in their community over a long period of time; Community — a good Samaritan involved with an event or project that benefits the community; Youth — a student who demonstrates leadership qualities; Workplace — an organization that demonstrates unusual commitment to the community; First Responder — a firefighter, police officer or EMT who has performed an act beyond the call of duty; and Military — a member of the Armed Forces who has acted above the call of duty.

All heroes must either live or work in the communities served by the American Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts or have committed a heroic act in the chapter’s service territory. Communities include Amesbury, Byfield, Georgetown, Groveland, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, Salisbury and West Newbury.

To nominate a hero, visit www.redcross.org/ma/peabody/heroes. Forms are due by Jan. 17, and the breakfast will be held March 20 in Danvers.

Anna Jaques offers Birth Center tours

Expectant parents or people considering starting a family are invited to take free tours of the Birth Center and Neonatology Care Center at Anna Jaques Hospital.

The tours will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, starting Dec. 4. Visitors will receive information on classes and programs on topics including early pregnancy, prepared childbirth, breast-feeding, prenatal exercise, hypnobirthing, prenatal and postnatal massage, and support for new mothers.

Yogurt store collecting pantry donations

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt in Newburyport will start collecting canned goods and nonperishable food items for The Salvation Army next week.

Customers who bring in a donation during the week of Dec. 2 will receive 3 free ounces of yogurt with every 8-ounce purchase.
