The Lookout: Soul and blues concert tonight


Families are invited to attend the program and sing some treasured Christmas carols with the youth choir from the Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport, directed by Donna Postle.

Terry Blanchard will read “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” and children can visit with Santa and tell him their wish lists.

The fun begins at 11 a.m. at the theater. Tickets sell out so families are encouraged to buy early. Tickets are $3 and are available at the box office or by calling 978-462-7336.

Boston String Quartet plays at Belleville

The Boston String Quartet will return to Newburyport later this holiday season with their new seasonal program, “Christmas in Paris.”

The musicians will bring French carols, new stories, and multimedia tools as they take the audience through the City of Lights on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. Belleville Church is located at 300 High St., Newburyport.

The quartet will explore Paris through music from a mix of hit movies, music from Edith Piaf, and traditional French carols. Video images of beloved landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Louvre will accompany the music.

The Boston String Quartet is one of only a few string ensembles that writes all original music and arrangements.

Tickets are $20. Children and teens under age 18 are free to attend.

Christmas Candlelight Service at First Religious

The First Religious Society in Newburyport is holding its 87th annual Christmas Candlelight Service on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7:15 p.m.

The traditional carol service will feature music from three choirs, a brass ensemble, and the newly restored pipe organ. Treasured tunes of the season will be performed such as“ O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “The First Noel,” and “Angels We Have Heard On High,” along with musical pieces from around the world.
