Adult comedy at the Playhouse

After a successful run this fall, the adult comedy "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress" returns to Amesbury Playhouse to cap off 2009 and lead off 2010.

The play by Alan Ball, the writer behind the film "American Beauty" and producer of the HBO TV shows "Six Feet Under" and "True Blood," spotlights five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids who hide out during a wedding reception, each with her own reason to avoid the celebration. They come to realize, among other things, that despite their differences, they have more in common with each other than they do with the bride.

The show is on stage at the theater at 194 Main St. in Amesbury on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 8:30 p.m., with dinner served at 7; as well as Saturday, Jan. 9, and Sunday, Jan. 10.
