Health Beat: Free screening of 'Forks Over Knives' in Newburyport

On the last Saturday of the month, in lieu of paying for classes, participants may make a donation to the charity of the month.

During the 7 a.m. Power Yoga, 8:30 a.m. Gentle Flow and 9:30 a.m. Pilates sessions tomorrow, the studio will collect toys, blankets and food for the animals at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen.

Peer-led support for mental illness

The local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness hosts a Family & Friends Support Group on the first and third Thursday of every month.

The peer-led group is for those who have a loved one dealing with a mental illness and offers understanding, support and resource information.

Sessions are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. On the first Thursday of the month, they take place at Merrimack Valley Hospital, 62 Brown St., Haverhill, and on the third Thursday, they are held at Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, 63 State St.

NAMI Northeast Essex also holds a Connection Peer Support Group, for anyone with a psychiatric diagnosis, at Merrimack Valley Hospital on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. For more information on that group, email elizakwilson@yahoo.com.

Anna Jaques hosting Birth Center tours

Expectant parents or people considering starting a family are invited to take free tours of the Birth Center and Neonatology Care Center at Anna Jaques Hospital.

The tours will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, through Oct. 1.

Visitors will receive information on classes and programs on topics including early pregnancy, prepared childbirth, breast-feeding, prenatal exercise, hypnobirthing, prenatal and postnatal massage, and support for new mothers.
