Island flavor

It’s not too late to scoop up tickets for tomorrow’s annual A Taste of Plum Island.

The fundraiser features food, desserts, beer and wine from a number of restaurants in the region, as well as music and at least 100 raffle items, including gift certificates. It will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Plum Island Taxpayers Association Hall.

“It’s like a large cocktail party for a couple of hours,” organizer Diane Barrett said. “It’s a great way for the island to start the summer. People walk from their homes.”

This year’s event will support sand restoration efforts on the island, as well as maintenance for PITA Hall.

The American Barbecue in Rowley is bringing pulled pork, which is smoked for 16 hours in advance, and cornbread.

“We’ve been doing it for a long time, but this is the first time we will have a representative there,” owner Michele Pierro said.

Pierro’s sister Donna Chasnoff, who does catering for the restaurant, will serve the food to guests tomorrow night.

“We just try to do as much as we can to help the community around us,” Pierro said. “I know how much people put into events like this.”

Pierro and her husband, Steve, used to own Jacob Marley’s in Newburyport, so they have a special connection to the area, she said.

“We love Newburyport, and we have a lot of customers in Newburyport,” she said.

Other restaurants participating in tomorrow’s event include All American Tavern, Anchor Stone Deck Pizza, Angelina’s Catering, Angie’s, Black Cow, Bob Lobster, Bucciarelli’s Butcher Shop & Deli, Domino’s Pizza, Brown Sugar by the Sea, Famous Pizza, Giuseppe’s, Grog, Hana Japan, Jewel in the Crown, Mad Martha’s, Mapow Sushi-Thai Restaurant, Newbury Butchery, Not Your Average Joe’s, Oregano Pizzeria & Ristorante, Plum Island Beachcoma, Plum Island Grille, The Port Tavern, Purple Onion Cafe, Riverside Cafe, Starboard Galley, Revitalive Cafe and Szechuan Taste.
