Health Beat: Asperger's support group meets Jan. 14

There will be a meeting of the Asperger Syndrome Support Group on Monday, Jan. 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Higgins conference room of Anna Jaques Hospital, 25 Highland Ave., Newburyport. A general discussion, including recent successes and challenges is planned.

The support group addresses the concerns of parents of school-aged children diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, high-functioning autism, or related challenges. Meetings are free, open to the public, and serve families from all neighboring communities.

The group is sponsored by the Asperger’s Association of New England.

Hearing seminar Jan. 16

Are you constantly asking people to repeat themselves? Do you wish people would stop mumbling? Do you really have a hearing problem? How can you find out in a safe environment?

Digital Hearing Healthcare is holding a free educational hearing seminar on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 9:45 a.m. at the Senior Center, 155 Haverhill St., Lawrence. The session will address questions and topics such as how the ear works, protecting your hearing ability, understanding common hearing issues, enhancing communication and listening skills, common psychological effects of sound voids, hearing technology costs and advancements in that technology.

OA meets in Port, Amesbury

Overeaters Anonymous meets weekly at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport. The meetings run from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. The church is located at 166 High St., Newburyport.

Overeaters Anonymous also holds weekly sessions in Amesbury. On Tuesdays, from 3:45 to 4:50 p.m., meetings are held in the Carriage Room of the Amesbury Health Center on Highland Street. It is the first door on left after entering.

A 12-step program of recovery, OA is meant to assist people with food disorders and food addictions. It addresses physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. To learn more about OA, visit www.oaambi.org.
