The Lookout: Port band gets back in the groove with reunion show


New singers are invited to audition for the Cantemus Chamber Chorus next week.

Auditions for the 40-voice ensemble are by appointment only and will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Church, 1 Arbor St., Wenham.

Tuesday’s auditions will be followed by a “season preview” led by music director Jane Ring Frank. The public is invited to sing along as the chorus runs through works it will perform this winter.

A tale of friendship for children

Georgetown resident Maggie van Galen will read from her children’s book on Saturday at Jabberwocky Bookshop.

“The Adventures of Keeno and Ernest — The Diamond Mine” is the second in a series of books about a mischievous monkey and his best friend, a wise elephant.

The reading will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at the bookstore, located in The Tannery Marketplace, 50 Water St., Newburyport.

Photos, watercolors highlighted in exhibit

A solo show by Karen Fitzgerald is on display through Monday at the Newburyport Art Association.

“Intuitive Responses” features watercolors, photography and mixed media by the Methuen High School teacher.

A free opening reception with refreshments will be held tonight from 6 to 8. On Saturday, Fitzgerald will do a watercolor demonstration at 11:30 a.m. On Sunday at 2 p.m., she will talk about her black-and-white, darkroom-enlarged pieces.

The exhibit is in the Laura Coombs Hills Gallery, 65 Water St., which is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

MAC wraps up concert series

The Maudslay Arts Center Summer Concert Series concludes its season this weekend with New Black Eagle Jazz Band at 7 p.m. on Saturday and The ’60s Invasion at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
