On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., an open house will be held at Syringa Plus Nursery, 210 Bachelor St. The event will feature a “Let’s Talk Lilacs” casual get-together and a plant propagation demonstration.

Photos sought for annual calendar

Do you have a great photo of a favorite place or activity in Maudslay State Park? The Maudslay State Park Association is seeking entries for its 2014 “Save the Pond” calendar.

Pictures should be clearly marked with the title and the name of the submitter. Photos submitted on CD or by email should be at least 5 MB in size.

A $25 donation will guarantee inclusion in the calendar. If you want your photo to represent a month, submit $125 and the association will choose the most appropriate month.

An event for the dogs

Under One Woof in Georgetown is sponsoring Paws for a Cause this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to adopt a dog from PAWS New England and bring their pets in to sample treats from Goodness Gracious.

Fur-All Mobile Pet Spa is offering nail clipping for $12, with proceeds going to PAWS.

Art brightens up hospital lobby

Work by award-winning Newburyport artist Cynthia Cooper is on display in the main lobby of Anna Jaques through Oct. 24.

In her acrylic landscape paintings, Cooper captures the beauty of the salt marshes, sand dunes, Maudslay and the unique architecture of Newburyport. She is a member of the Newburyport Art Association and the Newburyport Ten plein air group.
