Health Beat:


A number of agencies will provide information and services, including a flu clinic and the Amesbury Lions’ Eye Mobile. Methuen Village will offer a grab-and-go lunch.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Haircuts to help cancer center

A cut-a-thon to support the new Gerrish Breast Cancer Center at Anna Jaques Hospital will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vintage Salon & Day Spa.

All proceeds from haircuts, facials, waxing, manicures and other services will be donated to the center. The salon will also offer refreshments and raffles.

Vintage is located at 26 Newburyport Turnpike, Rowley. To book an appointment, call 978-948-7090.

Blood drives in local communities

There are several upcoming blood drives in the region:

Amesbury: Today, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Amesbury Senior Center, 68 Elm St.; Monday, Nov. 18, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sparhawk Theatre, 196 Main St.

Newburyport: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1 to 6 p.m., Elks Lodge, 25 Low St.; Monday, Nov. 25, 2 to 7 p.m., Elks Lodge, 25 Low St.

Georgetown: Friday, Nov. 8, 2 to 7 p.m., Georgetown Masons, 16 E. Main St.

Salisbury: Friday, Nov. 15, 1 to 6 p.m., Hilton Senior Center, 43 Lafayette Road

Rowley: Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2 to 7 p.m., Rowley Veterans Association, 19 Bradford St.

Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Learn about benefits of acupuncture

Newburyport Acupuncture is hosting a free talk on acupuncture and Chinese medicine on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Licensed acupuncturist Susan Patten will discuss what an acupuncture session is like and answer questions. Acupuncture is used to treat medical issues including allergies, insomnia, fertility, menopause, headaches, back pain and stress.

The talk will be held at Patten’s office at 172 State St. Tea and refreshments will be served.
