SEABROOK - A South Hampton man is being held at Rockingham County House of Correction on $75,000 cash bail awaiting trial in Superior Court on multiple counts of domestic simple assault and felony charges of criminal mischief.

Alan F. Counter, 37, of Hilldale Avenue, appeared at Hampton District Court in Seabrook last Thursday before Judge Francis Frasier on five Class A misdemeanor charges and two felony charges related to a Dec. 2 incident at his home.

All cases were sent to Rockingham County Superior Court for adjudication. Frasier ordered Counter held on $75,000 cash bail until his trial.

Charges were brought by State Police after Trooper Seth Gahr responded to a call on Dec. 2. Upon arriving at the Hilldale Avenue home, the caller alleged Counter had assaulted her and his parents while he was drunk.

According to court documents, Counter was charged with two counts of simple assault against the female victim, one of which involved pushing her to the ground. The other two simple assault charges involved allegations that Counter pushed both his mother and father down onto a cement floor after they were called by the victim.

The felony charges of criminal mischief relate to damage to the interior walls of the home he shared with the female victim, in which Counter allegedly punched holes. In addition, he is being charged with ripping apart a portion of the interior of her 2007 Toyota RAV4, including the console, climate control system, glove boxes and interior sunroof slider. The cost of the damage to both the walls and vehicle are estimated to total at least $1,000 on each count, according to court documents.

Another misdemeanor charge of obstructing a report of crime or injury was brought against Counter for allegedly disconnecting the phone to prevent his victim from calling the police, according to the complaint.

Documents included with the file indicate Counter has a lengthy criminal record, with convictions recorded in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
