Antique sale today
After a one-year hiatus, the Belleville Congregational Church's antiques show and sale returns to the Yankee Homecoming lineup. The show and sale has long been a fixture on Homecoming's Monday schedule and it returns today when the doors open at 9 a.m. The show will run until 3 p.m. Admission is $4 per person. This marks the 46th edition of the show and sale, held in the church hall and the grounds at 300 High St. Nancy Canali of Amesbury, one of the organizers of the event, said 50 dealers from all over New England will be participating, offering everything from jewelry to furniture to collectibles and to prints. For the first time this year, the church will have its own room of items for sale, mostly donated antiques. Church volunteers will also sell lunch. The 2009 show was canceled because of the difficulty of working around construction projects at the church.
Road closures planned
Newburyport police have issued road closure warnings for Tuesday's annual road race, which kicks off at 6:25 p.m. at the high school.
The times and closures are:
6 p.m. — High Street
6:25 p.m. — State, Merrimac (westbound), Market Square, Route 1 ramps, Parker Street in Newbury
6:50 p.m. — Chain Bridge
7 p.m. — Garden Street, West Newbury; Interstate 95 ramps, Route 113
7:10 p.m. — "3 Roads," at Atkinson Common
Also, no parking is allowed in the following locations:
High Street, from Toppans Lane to Summit, both sides
Toppans Lane, from Highland to High Street
Highland, to Anna Jaques Hospital, High Street side only
Toppans Lane, from Low to Summit, west side only
Town Crier
The Town Crier, aka Charles Cullen, will begin making announcements, such as birthday wishes, anniversaries, wedding proposals or what have you, from the Bullnose in Market Square at noon. To have an announcement made, e-mail towncrier@theprovidentbank.com. The $10 cost of the announcement will go toward supporting the Yankee Homecoming parade on Sunday.
Tonight's band
Tonight's Waterfront Concert Series Band is Country Mile Band, which offers "foot-stomping covers and originals." The band will start at 7:30 p.m. in Market Landing Park, on the downtown waterfront.
