Robbery try reported at restaurant

AMESBURY — Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery over the Fourth of July weekend at the China Star restaurant, 107 Main St.

Although officials were still compiling the report yesterday and could not release details on the late night incident, which was reported at 1:32 a.m. Sunday morning, Sgt. Robert Frost said a clerk working at China Star on July 4 was approached by someone demanding they hand over the money in the cash register.

The perpetrator gestured in such a way to indicate they were holding a weapon, but were denied by the clerk and left the restaurant without further incident.

Later on that morning, at approximately 5:29 a.m., The Hollow Street Cafe reported a breaking and entering and burglary at their Main Street location. Police are investigating that incident as well, and could offer no information yesterday on what was stolen from the restaurant. Frost said it's not been determined whether the two incidents were related.

"There's no indication right now that they were," said Frost.
