Rowley library adopts library in Haiti

ROWLEY — Throughout the summer, patrons of the Rowley Public Library have been reading books to adopt a library in Haiti. Inspired by a program launched by the American Library Association and funded by the Friends of the Rowley Library, patrons of all ages were able to log in enough reading to meet the goal of donating the $500 grant approved by the Friends last spring.

The library staff wishes to thank all of the patrons who participated. Thanks to their enthusiastic support, Friends President Nancy Judge will present a check on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. to benefit the Centre Culturel Pyepoudre in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Dr. Em Claire Knowles, assistant dean for Student Services at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College, has agreed to accept the donation on behalf of the ALA. Knowles serves on the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners.

All are welcome to the celebration of the community's commitment to the library's educational mission. For more information, contact the Rowley Public Library at 978-948-2850. The library is at 141 Main St.
