Transition to Adulthood workshop series on tap

The Arc of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport and the Parent Advisory Councils of Georgetown, Haverhill, Newburyport and Pentucket schools is offering a series of free workshops on Transition to Adulthood for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The three-part series begins tomorrow and will provide informational speakers on transition planning with a student’s IEP Team, the role and eligibility process for services from the Department of Developmental Services and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, and options for living and working after school.

Organizers say the transition students will make from school to adult life in the community is a long journey that difficult for anyone, but especially challenging for a child with a disability. The workshops will help parents guide them on determining where to go and the best way to get there. Federal and state laws that guide these steps will be discussed.

The sessions will be held at Merrimack Valley Hospital Auditorium, 140 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. While there is no charge for the workshops, registration is required. Email Kerry.Mahoney@TheArcofGHN.Org or 978-373-0552, ext. 201 to register. For more information on The Arc and information on the series, visit www.thearcofghn.org.
