Programs at Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats

NEWBURYPORT — Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, One Plum Island Turnpike, is a natural history education and visitor center that is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and Monday holidays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mass Audubon members receive discounts on programs. Call 978-462-9998 for information about additional programs and events or visit www.massaudubon.org/joppaflats.

Activities and outings meet at the education center unless otherwise noted.

SATURDAY TEACHER WORKSHOP: BIRD BANDING STATION

Teacher-Naturalist Lisa Hutchings leads a series of indoor/outdoor workshops that will help teachers of pre-K through grade 5 with nature education. Coming up: Nov. 17: Forest Study.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 8 a.m.-noon. Fee: $30. Preregistration is required.

SATURDAY MORNING BIRDING

Join our experienced leaders in a search for avian activity in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. For beginners and birders of all skill levels.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 9-11:30 a.m. Fee: adults, $10; children ages 8 and up, $7. No preregistration required.

FALL MIGRANTS IN BOSTON

Yes, there are birds in Boston! Science education coordinator Dave Larson leads this trip to the Fenway’s Victory Gardens, Post Office Square, the Public Gardens, and more.

THOSE LITTLE BROWN THINGS: A SPARROW WORKSHOP

Take on one of the birding world’s greatest challenges — sparrow identification — through a workshop and field trip. With sanctuary director Bill Gette.

HALLOWEEN FAMILY FUN FREE-FOR-ALL!

Get into the Halloween spirit! Drop in in your costume for an hour or stay all day for stories, songs and explorations. For families with children ages 2 and up.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BIRDING

Join Joppa Flats Sanctuary director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. Appropriate for all birding levels.
