Mom arrested for making kids drink bleach

SEABROOK — Police have arrested a Seabrook mother for forcing her children, ages 6 and 7, to drink bleach.

Wendy Wright, 33, of 15 True Road, was arrested yesterday in a Boston hospital room where she is recovering from the incident. She will be transported back to New Hampshire in order to face the charges.

On the evening of June 18, police and firefighters were called to her home for a medical emergency, where they discovered Wright and her children in distress. They were quickly transported to the hospital. The children have since been released, and state officials have made arrangements for their care through family court.

Until yesterday, police and prosecutors were mum on what had happened at Wright’s home, a trailer home on the west end of Seabrook. They had stated that an investigation was underway.

Yesterday, County Attorney Jim Reams and Seabrook Police Chief Lee Bitomske jointly announced that Wright faced two counts of Attempted First Degree Assault, for attempting to cause serious bodily injury to two children under the age of 13 by inducing the children to consume bleach.

Bleach, a common household chemical typically used for cleaning and killing germs, can cause serious internal injuries if ingested in moderate quantity. Large doses can be fatal. It has a corrosive effect on human tissues, and in large doses can cause breathing problems and heart attack.

Authorities would not comment on what Wright’s motive was, however they indicated more charges may be forthcoming.

“This investigation is ongoing and Seabrook detectives are following up on many leads. Final charging decisions will be made after all leads have been followed to their logical conclusions”, said Reams.

Attempted First Degree Assault upon someone under age 13 is a Class A felony carrying a maximum of 7 ½ to 15 years at the NH State Prison and a $4,000.00 fine on each Count.
