This Day in History

On this day in 1858, The Newburyport Herald reported that Elder Pike baptized 21 and Rev. Hooper of the Green Street Baptist Church baptized 15 at the foot of Kent Street in the Merrimack River. Elder John Pearson of the Advent Church baptized 12 at the bottom of Fair Street also in the Merrimack. Rev. Spaulding of the Pleasant Street Church “sprinkled” 30 or 40.
