AMESBURY — The Amesbury Health Care Charitable Trust has given the gifts of wellness and fitness to the Amesbury Council on Aging's 3,000-plus members. Aerobic exercise classes, yoga, tai chi and zumba are among the programs to be offered in the Amesbury Health Care Charitable Trust Wellness Room when the new Senior Center opens next year.
Exercise equipment and a curriculum of health-related programs, including stability ball training, diabetes education, chronic disease self-management, nutrition education, arthritis management, fall prevention, stress management, time management and free-time workouts will be available to COA members, thanks to the Amesbury Health Care Charitable Trust's leadership pledge of $15,000.
"We are proud to have this opportunity to participate in the building of Amesbury's new Senior Center," said Robert E. Gaudet, chairman of the Amesbury Health Care Charitable Trust. "The trustees of our organization extend to the Council on Aging staff and the officers of the Friends of COA our appreciation for all of their efforts directed to the success of this new Senior Center."
"Because of the Health Care Trust's stewardship of the health and wellbeing of every citizen of Amesbury, I consider their leadership gift to be a special endorsement of our project," said David Hildt, chairman of the Friends Capital Campaign. "To show our gratitude and appreciation for all that the Amesbury Health Care Charitable Trust does for our community, we are proud to permanently name this room The Amesbury Health Care Charitable Trust Room."
The Friends' Capital Campaign is nearing the halfway point of its $250,000 goal. The funds will be used to furnish and equip the new Senior Center, which will be located within the Senator Nicholas J. Costello Transportation Center, currently under construction in Amesbury's Lower Millyard. The public appeal phase of the capital campaign is under way.
