Workshop on cultivating inner peace
Thulani DeMarsay of Cambridge, nationally recognized author and coach, will host a workshop, Resilience and the Human Spirit, tomorrow at noon at Unity on the River spiritual center, 58 Macy St,, Amesbury.
The 90-minute workshop offered will take a holistic approach to managing and transforming adversity and cultivating inner peace. DeMarsay will talk about the lessons and gifts that can be gained by remaining open and receptive to Spirit's calling and how these experiences can lead us to a place of transcendence. The public is welcome; $20 suggested love offering.
DeMarsay will also be the guest speaker at the Unity On The River Sunday service at 10 a.m. The public is welcome.
Vacation Bible School July 11 to 15
Take a journey on the Eagle Express Flight 3031 at Vacation Bible School at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Route 1, Topsfield. All children prekindergarten age through grade 6 are invited. Discover God at Market Street Baptist
Market Street Baptist Church, 37 Market St., Amesbury, is hosting Discover God Vacation Bible School Week for ages 5 to 9 Monday to Friday, Aug. 8 to 12, from 9 a.m. to noon. Old South Vacation Bible School
First Presbyterian Church, Old South, will hold its annual Vacation Bible School July 25 to 29 from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 3 to 12. This year's theme is Pandamania: Where God is Wild about You! Come join us in a lush bamboo forest full of pandas and other exotic creatures, where we'll sing, play games, tell stories, make crafts and enjoy delicious snacks. The event is free. Thrift shop in Rowley
Fellowship Thrift Shop located in lower hall of First Congregational Church of Rowley, 175 Main St., Rowley, has new hours.
The shop is open Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, weather permitting.
Check out daily half-price sales and the special tag sale the first Saturday of each month. When the shop is open, it accepts donations of gently used clothing and household items, but no electronics, books or toys.
Sunday Soups at Pilgrim Church
Free Sunday Soups, co-sponsored by Pilgrim Congregational Church in Merrimac and Our Neighbors' Table in Amesbury, take place the last Sunday of each month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Church, 27 Church St. Soups, bread, dessert and beverage are served. Centering prayer at St. James
St. James Episcopal Church in Amesbury offers centering prayer as one of its Saturday alternative services. Centering, or contemplative prayer, is a meditation practice based on the work of the Rev. Thomas Keating, who believes that silence is "God's first language." St. James will continue to offer a twice-weekly opportunity for centering prayer in the meditation chapel.
