---- — NEWBURYPORT — Due to parks commissioners’ scheduling conflicts, the public meeting to review potential improvements to Atwood Park that was slated for next Thursday, Nov. 15, will be postponed.
The meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Auditorium on Pleasant Street.
Residents have said that the tennis court at the park has deteriorated over the years and the area is now essentially a vacant asphalt lot.
In response to municipal leaders, residents have made suggestions for improvements that include a community garden, a bocce court and a new tennis court.
The Parks Commission, which oversees the community’s 17 parks and recreation areas, will offer options from which the public can choose. Members hope the commission can finalize a vision for the park’s future so that they can begin the task of raising funds for improvements.
The commission encourages all neighbors of the park and other interested residents to attend and voice their thoughts about improvements.
