Port compost center open for drop-offs

NEWBURYPORT — City officials are expecting the yard waste facility on Crow Lane to be pretty busy in the next couple weeks.

The facility, which is open to residents only, will be open Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The expected closing date is Dec. 1, weather permitting.

Curbside leaf pickup will take place on residents’ regular trash day during the weeks of Nov.12 and 26 and Dec. 10. City officials ask that bags be out at the curb by 6 a.m.

Leaves should be placed in brown paper bags or deposited loose in marked barrels. No brush or branches will be picked up as these leaves are going to a local farm.

More information can be obtained from Molly Ettenborough, the city’s recycling director, at 978-465-4410.
