This Day in History

On this day in 1901, Newburyport Branch No. 42 of the Bricklayers & Masons International Union of America met at Lasters Hall on Middle Street. The branch voted that starting May 1, 1902, eight hours would constitute a day’s work, the hourly rate would be 42 cents, with $20.16 the pay for a 48-hour week.
