This Day in History

Newburyport Daily News

---- — On this day in 1880, the Newburyport Herald suggested that “Daltonville” would be an appropriate name for the “thriving and rapidly growing” portion of the city located in the old circus field which today is the neighborhood behind the Mall on and off Greenleaf Street. Three years prior it was a barren spot but was beginning to become thickly covered with buildings. — Information provided by the Historical Society of Old Newbury
