Videotaping leads to summons for NHS student

NEWBURYPORT — A Newburyport student was summonsed to court Friday after allegedly shooting a video of another student washing his hands inside a boys room.

According to Newburyport police City Marshal Thomas Howard, the 16-year-old male student used his cellphone to shoot a short video of another male student washing his hands. The suspect then allegedly placed the video of Facebook, which quickly prompted complaints. After an investigation by school resource officer Gregory Whitney, a summons was issued on the charge of unlawful wiretapping.

“He didn’t know he was being recorded,” Howard said of the victim.

Howard stressed that the student being videotaped was simply washing his hands and nothing more.
