January legislative office hours: Richard Curran, a representative from state Sen. AARP tax preparation program returns Feb. 6: Beginning Feb. 6 through April 10, two AARP tax aide preparers will be available Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., to assist elders and other moderate-income individuals with their tax preparations. Information regarding tax preparation and the criteria for Massachusetts Circuit Breaker tax credit program is available at the Council on Aging office. Appointments for income tax information are required. To reserve a time, call the COA office.
Whittier Vo-Tech program Feb. 12: Join us for a special Valentine’s Day treat on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 11:30 a.m., when the culinary arts students from Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School will be on hand to present a special Valentine’s Day lunch to Georgetown elders. Along with the culinary arts students, students from the health occupation program will be on hand to assist and share in conversation. A $5 donation is suggested to support the culinary arts program at Whittier. To make reservations, call the COA office by Wednesday, Feb. 5.
New education series for caregivers to begin March 4: Presented by the Alzheimer’s Association, a new education program, “The Essential Skills for Caregivers Series,” will provide families of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia or memory disorders with education and practical tools for caring for someone with dementia on Tuesdays, March 4, 11 and 25, 10 a.m., at the First Congregational Church. Individuals may attend one program or all three programs. Refreshments will be served.
Indoor Walking Program underway: In partnership with the Georgetown School Department, the Georgetown COA indoor walking program at the Penn Brook School is underway on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m. At their own pace, participants are able to walk a loop within the school. Walkers will be asked to sign in upon arrival and sign out as they leave the school.
