This Day in History

On this day in 1807, the Rev. Samuel Spring of the North Congregational Church preached his last sermon. He received the honorary degree of doctor of divinity from Yale College and also from Williams College. He was prominent in the movement that culminated in the organization of the American Board of Foreign Missions and was chosen vice president at its first meeting in 1810.
