WEST NEWBURY — More than 1,500 homes in and around West Newbury lost power for a short time yesterday at approximately 1:03 p.m., according to a National Grid spokesman.
The outage covered most of West Newbury and stretched down to Groveland and Byfield and over into the west end of Newburyport.
According to officials from National Grid, the outage was caused by a fallen tree branch that struck power lines on Stewart Street in West Newbury. Originally, officials suspected that the outage could have been caused by the cable along Main Street in West Newbury.
Power was restored to a majority of customers within two hours as a result of temporarily rerouting power around the damaged area, the spokesman said. By 3:11 p.m., power was completely restored to all affected customers.
