Evening of fun benefits Pine Grove School camp trip

Pine Grove School is holding an inaugural School Social — an evening of food, music and spirits — on Saturday, March 15 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Governor’s Academy in Byfield. The evening is a collaboration between the school’s PTA and Rowley Public Education Fund, who have come together to help raise funds for next year’s fifth grade trip to the Ferry Beach Ecology School in Maine. Proceeds from the evening’s activities will go towards reducing the cost of the trip for all students.

The School Social night includes a silent auction from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by a live auction at 9:15 p.m., and raffle drawing at 9:45 p.m. Music by DJ J&C Entertainment will add to the festivities, which also includes a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres. Tickets can be ordered at and are $15 each, or two for $25. All are welcome to attend this event.

The next meeting of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) will be on Monday, March 24 at 6 p.m. in the library of the Newbury Elementary School. Triton Superintendent Christopher Farmer will join the meeting.

SEPAC also will host a time for district families to meet one another tomorrow from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Newbury Town Library at 0 Lunt Street. All are welcome to attend to talk casually with others about their experiences, share resources, and enjoy snacks and coffee. Children not enrolled in school are welcome to attend.

The tentative Triton Regional School District budget for fiscal year 2015 calls for a 4.35 percent increase in spending, or $1,552,755 over the current year, hiking costs for the towns of Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury by an average of 5.38 percent, with Newbury and Rowley responsible for a majority of the increase. The selectmen from those towns will meet to discuss the budget tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Newbury Town Hall, 25 High Road in Newbury.
