'Red Sox Day' in Newburyport March 22

---- — NEWBURYPORT — The World Series trophy is coming to Newburyport.

The local Freemasons, in conjunction with the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and the Office of the Mayor, will display the World Series Championship trophy at the Masonic Building at 33 Green St. on Saturday, March 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Admission is free, and visitors can have their photos taken with the trophy.

The arrival of the ceremonial hardware is part of Newburyport Red Sox Day, an event that brings attention to the upcoming start of the baseball season.

Holaday will proclaim Red Sox Day in Newburyport, and state Rep. Mike Costello, D-Newburyport, is scheduled to make remarks.

Ann Ormond, president of the local Chamber, will sing the national anthem.

As part of the festivities, author Bruce Fitzpatrick, who wrote “The Tony Conigliaro Story” will be on hand with copies of his book, as well as raw film clips of Conigliaro during his playing days.

Jerry Moses, a member of the 1967 team roster, will also make an appearance, and memorabilia from the 2013 season when the Sox won the World Series will be available for purchase.

Providing support for the event are the Bethany Lodge A.F. & M. and the Newburyport Masonic Temple Association.

Hot dogs will be available and visitors are invited to talk baseball with employees of the Red Sox organization.
