Newburyport's waterfront, circa 1890s. This photo is taken roughly from the area of today's Harbormaster shack, looking toward Market Square. At the time, the waterfront was a hub for freight rail. Today, all of the buildings in the foreground are gone and the land is used as a parking lot. The Firehouse Center for the Arts is located on the left side of the photo, with a white tower attached.
