'Grease' is the word at Pentucket this weekend

WEST NEWBURY – Dust off that leather jacket and tug on those bobby socks! The Pentucket theatre department is hand jiving across the stage this weekend in a production of the musical “Grease.”

Directed by drama teacher Rachel McGowan with musical direction by Stephanie Witz, Pentucket’s “electrifyin’” version of the 1970 Broadway and Hollywood smash hit opens Friday March at 7 p.m. The show also runs on Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.

General admission tickets are $10 at the door with a limited number of reserved seats available for $15.

A free matinee for Senior Citizens hosted by the non-profit Pentucket Arts Foundation is planned for today at 3 p.m. The event is for senior citizens only with no reservations required. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Set in small-town Rydell in the 1950s, “Grease” tells the story of the on again/off again romance between cocky greaser Danny Zuko, played by Josef Allen, and wholesome Rydell High newcomer, Sandy (Tayla Racca). The two teens share some hot “Summer Nights” but when school resumes in the fall, how can Danny explain his summer dalliance with good girl Sandy to his wisecrackin’ gang of pals, Keneckie (Kevin Lundy), Roger (Tim Boyd), Doody (Eric Raimondi), and Sonny (Cameron Mulchahy)

Pushed a bit by Rizzo, the sassy, yet vulnerable leader of the Pink Ladies, played by Rachel Smith, Sandy vows to find a way to fit into Danny’s world. With help from Frenchy — the “beauty school drop out” (Paige Proto) — she transformers herself into a greaser’s dream date to convince Danny that he “better shape up” because he’s the one that she wants.

Other members of the cast include Alyssa Bartula, Caroline Beauparlant, Madison Begin, Gwendolin Bellamy, Liza Brackbill, Mary-Kate Corrado, Emily Daroga, Daniel Di Camillo, Jack Donahue, Connor Durkin, Jesse Feeney, Brenna Foley, Alyssa Frederick, Lilia Griffin, Laura Hardenstine, Jennifer Hauss, Ben Joyall, Nate Joyall, Lindsey Karalias, Kylie Kennedy, Hannah Knittle, Marisa Labadini, Garret Lischke, Whitney Lischke, Amelia Luke, Sara Maloney, Caitlin Miracle, Justin Peavey, Brielle Powers, Natalie Scott, Blaine Senechal, Olivia Spofford, Victoria Soucy, Cori Snook, Julie Stasiuk, Jillian Terry, Hailey Vlass, Michaela Wells, and Shannon Wesley. Student choreographers are Sara Maloney, Phoebe Law, Whitney Lischke and Amelia Luke.

Tech crewmembers are George Barlow, Scot Eichel, Thora Fink, and Matt Romanowski.

Playing in the pit band are Aaron Arsenault, Derek Cochran, Ryan Dymek, Nicola Elardo, Elizabeth Inger, Aaryn Johns, Noah Malonson, Jesse Rhudick, Alden Slack, and Cooper Slack.
