Social Security questions answered

AMESBURY — Social Security plays a role in every individual’s future retirement strategy, but how well do people really understand how the programs work and their level of benefit eligibility?

Marilenin Vasquez, public affairs specialist with the Social Security Administration, will speak on Wednesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Council on Aging, 68 Elm St. Vasquez has worked for the administration as a claims representative for over 10 years administering Social Security programs.

She will speak on topics such as: how retirement benefits and those of a spouse are calculated, making the decision on when to retire, whether the pension you receive may reduce your Social Security benefits, are Social Security benefits taxable?, can you work and still receive Social Security benefits, the different parts of Medicare coverage, Social Security coverage and benefits for younger Americans and online services and online filing.
