Three seek two selectmen's seats in town election

---- — NEWBURY — Voters will have a choice to make at the May 13 Annual Town Election, with three candidates running for two seats on the Board of Selectmen and a contest for fish commissioner as well.

Town Clerk Leslie Haley reports that 15 of the 18 residents who pulled nomination papers this year returned them by the March 25 deadline.

Newcomer Damon Jesperen is offering a challenge to incumbent Selectmen David Mountain and Joe Story for a three-year term.

There is also a race between Arthur Costonis and Jeffrey Janvrin for three years as fish commissioner.

The following seats on town ballot are uncontested. (Unless noted, the positions are for 3-year terms.)

George Morse, Planning Board (5 years)

Dina Sullivan, Triton Regional School Committee

Charles Colby Jr., constable (4 years)

Sanford Wechsler, Board of Assessors

Patrick Gormley, Trustee of the First Settlers Burial Ground

Peter Hollis, tree warden (1 year)

Steven Fram, Board of Health

Margaret Grimes one of two seats on Board of Library Trustees

Jeffrey Wardwell, one of two seats on Board of Library Trustees

Moderator, Christopher Armstrong

The polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Precinct 1 votes at the fire station, 3 Morgan Ave.; Precinct 2 at the town library, 0 Lunt St. The last day to register to vote in the election is April 23. Voters wishing to participate in the Annual Town Meeting must register to vote by April 30.
