Programs at Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats

Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, located at One Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport, is a natural history education and visitor center that is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and Monday holidays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BECOME AN EDUCATION VOLUNTEER AT JOPPA FLATS: SALT MARSH ECOLOGY

Learn to assist children’s educator Lisa Hutchings in coastal ecology and birding programs in the field and at schools. No experience necessary. Full reimbursement with post-training commitment of two half-days per month.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BIRDING

Join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. Appropriate for all birding levels.

Wednesdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

AFTERSCHOOL AT JOPPA: STAY WITH THE GROUP!

Children in grades 1 to 4 are invited to engage in wildlife learning experiences with a different theme each week. Come for one or sign up for the series. Last in the series: Family Matters (4/9)

HOMESCHOOL STUDY SESSION: ANIMAL TAXONOMY

Monthly focus topics for homeschoolers, ages 7 to 12, each with an on-site study session and an exciting field trip. Teacher: Lisa Hutchings. This month’s field trip is to The Harvard Museum of Natural History on April 17.
